Welcome to FALI "U"

FREE Benefit for FALI Members
FALI-U provides advanced, targeted, learning opportunities, specifically designed for experienced investigative disciplines. Each FALI-U program consists of a full day that includes professional development, instruction, activities and discussions. The content is designed so that you will have the skills and knowledge needed to provide a new service to your clients, develop new business opportunities, or put into practice new strategies for your organization.

FALI-U programs are led by industry experts who are recognized as professionals, with a reputation necessary to provide experienced investigators with the knowledge they need to better serve their organization, or clientele. Invest in yourself, and your profession, by attending these professional development programs. Certificates will be awards to those who successfully complete the program detailing the number of hours which may be used to satisfy continuing education requirements of other professional investigator organizations.

FALI-U attendees MUST be experienced investigators, or agency owners, who can prove, at least, three-years of experience as a private investigator, or in a related profession. Students are not eligible for this program. You do not have to be a member of FALI to attend FALI-U, however the program is only FREE for members.

Note: Due to the limited space, and in order to serve the most members possible, we will be enforcing these requirements. Proof must be provided that you qualify. Anyone with less than 3 years of experience qualifies to attend FALI Boot Camp instead.

Morning Session:

9:30AM - 12:30PM
“An Important Crash Course in
Using the Correct Contracts and Business Practices.”

Presented by:
FALI Life Member Mark Aubin, Esq, FBCI

Practitioners are trained to focus on their work and get the job done. When even the most skilled practitioner decides to shift gears, and become the boss, there is often a large, and sometimes unexpected, learning curve. Now instead of just getting the job done, they have to focus on the additional takes of: sales, marketing, client recruitment, and human resources. Out of necessity, entrepreneurs tend to work in the business and not on the business. If a business is to grow, it is important to make the shift to working on the business. The world looks so different from this perspective. One of the fundamental tools for any business is the use of thorough and well written contracts to protect the owner and the business. During this importantant, and necessary training, Mark will take you through several contracts including:
  • Client Contracts
  • Subcontractor Agreements
  • Employee Non-Disclose and Non-Compete Agreements
  • and the importance of a comprehensive credit card authorization to defeat the occasional attempt by a disgruntled client to reverse the charge afterwards.
Additionally, as a dual licensed, practicing investigator/attorney in Florida Mark has a comprehensive understanding of the critical aspects of Chapter 493 F.S. that carry the greatest impact on investigators and agencies. As such, he will spend time reviewing subject matter regarding 493 as it specifically applies to private investigators with changes and updates that have been implemented by the Division of Licensing.

1230PM - 1:30PM   Lunch Break
The hotel restaurant will be offering a buffet lunch for $17+ to best serve all attendees.

  Afternoon Sessions:

1:30PM - 2:30PM
"Lobbying 101"

Presented by:
FALI Lobbyist Lauren Whritenhour, Cynergy Consulting
This year FALI is celebrating our 25th Anniversary. FALI started in 1994 when several PI associations joined forces to be the voice for our profession in Tallahassee. Our Legislative Committee keeps a vigilant watch on bills that are introduced into the legislature every year which could impact and or be harmful to our Members. For years we have stopped bills which could have restricted our Members from conducting lawful investigations, as well as worked to pass those that help our profession. Both the Senate and the House chambers are familiar with FALI's visits to the Capitol every year. The membership is an important part of this process. Cynthia will discuss how every PI in Florida needs to be part of the process to protect our profession.

2:45PM - 5:00PM
The FALI Brain Trust

This year we decided to do something a little different, and more interactive, for the last part of FALI-U. Based on a model that has worked very successfully at the Tampa area meetings (started by Mark Aubin and then expanded by Matt Aubin) we have put together a panel of members who are experts in various subjects in which members have expressed interest. Each panelist will give a brief, 15 minute, presentation on their topic after which attendees will be able to ask questions about these topics, as well as any other PI related topics. When this is done in Tampa there is an incredible exchange of information between all participants be they presenters or attendees. This "networking," and "knowledge exchange," is the heart of what FALI membership is all about.

FBCI can receive 6.5 CEUs for attending all segments of the program
