Making Sure You Cross Your "T”s and Dot Your "I”s
An Important Crash Course in Correct Business Contracts and Practices

Presented by: Mark J. Aubin, Esq.
Practitioners
are trained to focus on their work and get the job done. When even the
most skilled practitioner decides to shift gears, and become the boss,
there is often a large, and sometimes unexpected, learning curve. Now
instead of just getting the job done, they have to focus on the
additional takes of: sales, marketing, client recruitment, and human
resources. Out of necessity, entrepreneurs tend to work in the business
and not on the business. If a business is to grow, it is important to
make the shift to working on the business. The world looks so different
from this perspective.
One
of the fundamental tools for any business is the use of thorough and
well written contracts to protect the owner and the business. During
this important, and necessary training, Mark will take you through
several contracts including:
- Client Contracts
- Subcontractor Agreements
- Employee Non-Disclose and Non-Compete Agreements
Additionally,
as a dual licensed, practicing investigator/attorney in Florida Mark
has a comprehensive understanding of the critical aspects of Chapter 493
F.S. that carry the greatest impact on investigators and agencies. As
such, he will spend time reviewing subject matter regarding 493 as it
specifically applies to private investigators with changes and updates
that have been implemented by the Division of Licensing.
Mark J. Aubin, Esq.
Mark
has been practicing law for 17 years and serves as General Legal
Counsel for FALI. He and has extensive experience in contracts, sub
contractor, confidentiality and non-compete agreements. All of which
are critical to the effective and profitable operation of any Agency. He
has also served a Family General Magistrate and Child Support Hearing
officer and currently is a volunteer City of Tampa Hearing Master for
parking citation and red light camera violation appeal hearings. In
addition to his law practice, he has been a licensed investigator for 10
years and owns Top Gun Investigations in Tampa.
Lunch Break
Afternoon Session: 1:30-5:00
Technology for the PI:
Forensics, Cameras and Apps

Presented by: Robert Wyman
Since
the earliest depictions of real as well as fictional Private
Investigators and Police Detectives, the technological prowess of the
practitioners have captured imaginations, influenced careers, and
spawned countless books, movies and television shows. Whether it was
a "Dick Tracy Watch” or a "Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT)”
vehicle from "Knight Rider,” the utilization of special vehicles,
aircraft, computers, communication devices, weapons and other equipment
have pushed the bounds of the investigative profession.
In 2015,
every Investigator has a device that was not only unavailable to
previous generations, it was also so advanced that previous generations
could not even dream of its existence. For the modern Investigator,
"Smartphone” or Tablet devices are readily available and affordable, yet
many practitioners never use the full capabilities of these products in
their investigative businesses.
This class will provide
Investigators with an overview of built-in phone features that will
enhance investigations, plus give attendees a hands-on demonstration
of "Apps” and add-on equipment that will greatly expand the
investigative functionality of a phone. As part of the presentation,
attendees will also learn about current Forensic practices, evidence
documentation procedures, file management, reports and testimony.
• Cameras and other investigative tools will be discussed at
length, often in comparison to phone/tablet use for such tasks.
• All participants will be provided with a detailed list of Apps and add-on equipment for phones and tablets.
• The class will conclude with a field assignment for all
attendees, requiring the use of a phone or tablet to complete a specific
and common investigative task.
• To be clear, this class will
NOT discuss "Cellphone Forensics,” which is the extraction of digital
evidence from a phone.
If an overall theme or question is to be
assigned to this class, it is "Can a cellphone or tablet be used to
conduct an entire investigation, without using any other device?” The
answer? Attend this class to find out!
